  12. SYNOPSIS
  13.  
  14.      NNTPd 1.5.12.1 based on the Unix Sources.  This version much more
  15.      solid than that of Rafael Luebbert's version also found on Aminet.

  17. DESCRIPTION
  18.  
  19.      NNTPd is the NNTP news daemon for use with AmiTCP 4.0+ or AS225
  20.      compatibe Stack.  It is called whenever a connection to port 119 is
  21.      made.  It is fully compliant with RFC 977 (included), and supports the
  22.      non-RFC 977 extensions:  mode reader, listgroups, xgtitle, xhdr,
  23.      xover, xpat and xpath.  User authentication (AUTH) is also supported
  24.      although not well documented in the sources and you may need MUfs in
  25.      order to take advantage of it.  Only 020 and 040 binaries have been
  26.      included in the archive and compiled pure so you can load them
  27.      resident.

  29. INSTALLATION

  31.      IMPORTANT:  ixemul.library and ixnet.library need to be installed
  32.      before you can proceed to use NNTPd.  You can find these libraries on
  33.      Aminet or at:  ftp://ftp.ninemoons.com/pub/ade/current/amiga-bin/
  34.      Version 47.0 was used for compile (ixemul-47.0-bin.lha)

  36.      It is also recomended that you install Cnews on your system before
  37.      using NNTPd, Either Crash Edwards or Kai 'wusel' Siering versions
  38.      which can also be found on Aminet.  I personally beleive wCnews by
  39.      wusel to be far better and I have used it for years without any
  40.      problems.  You might be able to hack it for use with AmigaUUCP.  The
  41.      disadvantage would be that whoever peers with you would pass along
  42.      duplicates.

  46.      Full sources have been included with Amiga conf.h and makefiles.  The
  47.      DBZ libraries sources found in Crash Edward's port of Cnews has also
  48.      been  included  in  the  archive.   Sources  compiled with GCC and the
  49.      ixemul libraries.  GCC can be found on the GeekGadgets CD-Rom or at
  50.      <ftp://ftp.ninemoons.com/pub/ade/current/amiga-bin/>.

  52. BUGS

  54.      I have been using this for weeks now with no bugs to report myself.  I
  55.      have both remote users and machines I peer with using the machine on a
  56.      very consitant bases with no crashes associated with NNTPd.
  57.      Currently, I have set NNTPd.040 on my system and loaded it resident on
  58.      an A4000T 040/40MHz Kickstart 40.70, Workbench 40.42 AmigaDOS 3.1
  59.      using using AmiTCP 4.3.  The binary may work with Inet225P using their
  60.      socket library found on the Interworks Web Page.  This Binary may also
  61.      work on Miami but has not been Tested.
